A gold edition of the Motorola A1600 touchscreen phone has just appeared on the Chinese website of the company. Designed in the spirit of the Motorola V8 Luxury edition the A1600 trades the snake for crocodile skin but this doesn’t make it much less tacky.

This time Motorola somehow managed to convince the renowned French jeweler and watch maker Cartier to take part. However it seems that the design is mostly done by Motorola with Cartier only providing a business card holder included in the retail package.

Adobe Flash 10 support for smartphones in late 2009

Adobe and ARM today announced a technology collaboration to optimize and enable Adobe Flash Player 10 and Adobe AIR for ARM powered devices, ranging from smartphones to set-top boxes, mobile internet devices, televisions, automotive platforms, personal media players and other mobile computing devices.

The joint technology optimization is targeted for the ARM11 and Cortex A-series of processors, using ARMv6 and ARMv7 architecture, respectively. The partnership stems from the Open Screen Project, a broad Adobe sponsored initiative set to address the challenges of Web browsing on a broad range of screens.

Nokia E63 surfaces, brings little surprises

After several leaks the Nokia E63 finally got its official announcement today. Much like the rumor had it the handset is a slightly downgraded and more budget friendly version of the E71. Most of the business functionality is still there so the lower price tag might actually be enough to make it quite a success amidst the global financial crisis.

The Nokia E63 has got a full hardware QWERTY keypad and comes with a slim waistline of 13mm. Its body is lacking the metal finish of the E71 and is entirely made of plastic instead. Most surprisingly however it will have touch sensitive Navi wheel functionality and a 3.5mm audio jack that lack on E71.

T-Mobile G1 is now available

T-Mobile USA today announced the national availability of the highly anticipated T-Mobile G1, the first Android-powered mobile phone. Beginning today, consumers can purchase the phone in select retail stores across the USA or opt for an online order from the comfort of their homes at the official site.

Firstly, the G1 will be offered in T-Mobile retail stores and select third-party stores where T-Mobile’s 3G service is currently available, starting from a retail store in San Francisco. Be aware that the quantities of G1 in the stores are very limited.

Apple has awoken sleeping giant Nokia

Apple Sells Unlocked iPhone 3G in Hong Kong

Apple has begun selling unlocked iPhone 3G models in Hong Kong, allowing people to use it with any mobile phone carrier.

On its Hong Kong website, the Cupertino-based company is advertising direct sales of iPhone 3G, saying people can “buy directly from Apple” and choose their own carrier. The 8GB version was on sale for $5,400 Hong Kong dollars ($695) while the 16GB version costs HK$6,200 ($798).

Apple said the phone can be activated with any wireless carrier.

The iPhone 3G was previously only officially available in Hong Kong bundled with a two-year contract from Hutchison Telecom, even though the device was widely available on the black market.
